Exposed aggregate sits in the middle of the decorative finishes. Perth concreters pour it so often that the price is competitive with the eastern states, and the spread between a low and a high quote comes from the stone, the prep and the access rather than the finish itself
| Finish | Low | Typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain concrete slab | $79 | $115 | $160 |
| Coloured concrete | $100 | $145 | $210 |
| Exposed aggregate | $125 | $170 | $210 |
| Stamped or stencilled | $125 | $165 | $210 |
| Liquid limestone, honed, before sealing | $95 | $115 to $130 | $150 |
Per square metre, laid, including GST. WhatsTheDamage, Perth concreting guide, verified November 2026; the liquid limestone row is The Quote Yard's WA guide, September 2026, which prices it before the first seal
What a whole driveway comes to
A single driveway on a new Perth block is about 40 square metres, and that is the size the published totals are built on
| About 40 m² | Low | Typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain concrete | $2,725 | $4,725 | $6,300 |
| Exposed aggregate | $5,050 | $6,800 | $9,450 |

What moves the price
- Taking out old concrete. $32 to $105 a square metre including disposal, $63 typical, so $1,280 to $4,200 on a 40 m² driveway. A new build has none of this
- The base. Excavation and compaction run $25 to $55 a square metre where the sand pad is not already right, and a limestone or clay pocket under the sand adds hand digging
- Access. A truck that cannot reach the pour means a concrete pump, and a pump is a line on the quote. Ask whether the price assumes the truck gets to the slab
- The stone. The aggregate chosen, its size and where it comes from move the per metre rate inside the range above, and a lighter stone keeps the surface cooler
- Sealing. Exposed aggregate is resealed every three to five years; decorative sealing runs $12 to $28 a square metre when it is done
- The crossover. The part in the road reserve is built to the council's specification, costs $1,400 to $3,800, carries an application fee, and on a first crossover the council pays part of it back

Council crossover fees and subsidies around Perth
A crossover sits in the road reserve, so it is built to the council's drawing and needs its approval. A first crossover on a new block is subsidised: WA regulations have the local government bear half the cost of a standard first crossover, and each council caps and conditions that its own way. Two of them do not list exposed aggregate as a material they pay towards, which is worth knowing before the pour
| Council | Application fee | First crossover subsidy | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| City of Wanneroo | Not published online | 50%, up to $1,392.44 | Concrete or brick paving only. Statutory declaration and itemised receipt, built within six months of the declaration. Second or rebuilt crossovers are not eligible |
| City of Rockingham | Not published online | 50% at a 3.5 m width | At a square metre rate the City sets each year. The owner applies after construction; about six weeks to inspect and pay |
| City of Armadale | Not published online | 50%, up to $400 | A registered contractor builds it. Plain or coloured concrete, brick or block paving, asphalt with approval. Exposed aggregate is not on the list. Lodge at least seven working days before work starts |
| City of Gosnells | Not published online | 50% of a standard first crossing | Apply within six months of completion |
| City of Canning | $594 | Ask the City | The 2026/27 application fee |
| City of Perth | $115 | Ask the City | Non-refundable |
| Town of Cottesloe | $179 | Ask the Town | |
| Town of Mosman Park | $118 | Ask the Town | From 1 July 2025 |
Each council's own crossover page or information sheet, read November 2026; the statutory half is the Shire of Capel's crossover policy quoting the regulation. Where a fee or a subsidy is not in the council's published material the table says so, and the council's engineering desk gives it in a phone call
On a main road frontage the approver is Main Roads WA, not the council. Either way the crossover is a separate approval from the house, so ask your concreter to lodge it or confirm who does
Why Perth pours pale finishes
Surface temperature is the reason exposed aggregate and liquid limestone took hold here. A pale finish stays cooler underfoot than dark grey concrete in a Perth February and keeps its grip when wet, which is why both run from the driveway to the pool surround. Exposed aggregate wears harder and hides sand and dust, and is coarser on bare feet; liquid limestone is smoother and paler, marks more easily, and is resealed every two to four years against three to five

Questions people ask before a driveway quote
Do I need council approval for a driveway in Perth?
The approval is for the crossover, the part between your boundary and the road. The council sets its width and specification and some charge an application fee. On a first crossover the council pays part of it back, with the conditions in the table above
Is there a licence for concreters in WA?
No. Western Australia has no concreter's licence, and a driveway is not builder's work, so nobody can be licensed for it. What you can ask for is an ABN, public liability insurance and recent driveways you can look at
How much does a crossover cost on its own?
$1,400 to $3,800 to build, plus the council's application fee where it charges one, less the first crossover subsidy where you qualify. Armadale does not list exposed aggregate among the materials it subsidises, so there the crossover is often poured plain or brick paved
What size is a normal driveway?
About 40 square metres on a single frontage, which is what the published totals use. A double driveway or a run to a rear garage is priced by the metre from the table above
